Job Summary:

Provides ultrasound services to patients within the student scope of practice.

Job Responsibilities and Requirements:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepares and positions patients and selects exposure factors under direct and indirect supervision.
  • Follows safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures.
  • Prepares for and assists the supervising technologists and physicians in a variety of ultrasound procedures that may include pelvic, abdominal, small parts and/or routine vascular examinations. 
  • May perform more complex imaging such as deep Doppler and guided interventional procedures such as biopsies and ablations as well as musculoskeletal ultrasound. 
  • Positions patients and selects anatomic and technical parameters accurately. Records the images and relays a clinical impression as indicated.
  • Assists in maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly department to include procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms and any other areas in department.
  • Notifies appropriate staff member of supply needs, equipment malfunction and necessary maintenance. 
  • Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Current enrollment in Sonography program

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Constant standing and walking.
  • Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more).
  • Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication.
  • Frequent use of hearing to distinguish body sounds and/or hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
  • Frequent lifting/moving of patients.
  • Frequent reaching, gripping and keyboard use/data entry.
