Purpose

The purpose of this position is to provide program support to the University of Texas “Semester in New York” Program and the UTNY Center. This position will interact with program leadership, faculty, staff, students, and stakeholders utilizing a high degree of professionalism to help achieve the objectives of the UTNY Center and the University of Texas. The person in this role will be both a key industry liaison and a career coach, interacting with students directly to support them in their internship application process.

This position is located in New York City. Expected Start Date is 8/1/2024.

Responsibilities

  • Evangelize the UTNY brand in NYC and serve as UTNY’s primary liaison with local HR departments and hiring managers of companies interested in UTNY students for internships. Work to place students in internships. Maintain accurate records of internship placements each semester; evaluate trends in the internship market and make program recommendations based on findings. Work closely in conjunction with Moody College of Communication, McCombs Business School, College of Fine Arts, College of Liberal Arts and UTNY program leadership, to build and maintain the database(s) of internship opportunities available to UTNY students.

  • Manage Office and Operations Coordinator on facility operations, budgeting, billing and supplies, and manage and train Student Success Coordinator, supervising these two UTNY staff members as direct reports. Master all operations policies and procedures.

  • Work closely with Austin-based Senior Program Coordinator in recruiting and onboarding students to the UTNY program each semester, assisting with internship opportunities, collaborating on marketing ideas and planning and co-leading new student orientation sessions each semester.

  • Teach and train students how to navigate their way through the competitive internship hiring process through a series of Webinars. Create go-to guides for students to use as references and meet with students one-on-one as career advisor. Monitor recruiting and interviewing trends to advise students. Coach students on how to advocate for themselves and create positive change. Coach partners on how to encourage students to get the most out of their internships and how to teach the students professional behaviors and actions. Facilitate coffee chats for students with professionals in their fields.

  • Under the joint leadership of the Program Director and Executive Director, assist in the oversight and management of the UTNY Center. Ensure that all UT and UTNY policies and procedures are adhered to by staff, students and visitors to the Center, maintaining the Center as a safe environment for all. Serve as UTNY’s Chief Safety Officer by mastering all student safety policies of The University of Texas at Austin, ensuring that the Center remains a safe environment. Work closely with the Program Director to conceive, plan, coordinate and execute the program’s experiential leaning opportunities and speaker panels.

  • Oversee annual UTNY Career Fair, bringing in partners and putting together operational event plans. Teach students how to prepare for a career fair, network and work a room full of professional recruiters.

  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree, 5+ years of work or related experience within the corporate world and higher education. Experience using Microsoft Suite. Excellent interpersonal and analytical skills. Experience in human resources functions. Excellent decision-making and problem-solving experience. Demonstrate good customer service with both internal and external customers. 

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with college students. Experience with the University of Texas. Experience with New York City. 5+ years of managerial, recruitment or operational experience in relevant industries. Experience with educational technology (e.g., Canvas). Comfortable and confident with learning new technologies.

Salary Range

$80,000 + depending on qualifications
