Job Title:  Utility Worker II(Construction)                                 Department:  Distribution – 824

                

Reporting Relationship:  District Field Supervisor                  Exempt Status:  Non-Exempt

Grade: I

Shift: Mon-Thurs, 6am-4:30pm 

 

General Responsibilities

Install and maintain water mains, valves, services, meter boxes, vaults, loops, fire hydrants, etc. with maximum efficiency and safety for the general public.  Serve in a lead role when working with Utility Worker I regarding efficient location and maintenance.

 

 

Essential Job Functions

  1. Install water mains, valves, services, meter boxes, fire hydrants, vaults, etc., and locate leaks and lines within the distribution system.
  2. Read and use maps to locate lines and valves to shut off the water as needed
  3. Operate equipment such as pumps, pipe-cutting hand tools, air compressors and radio, including heavy equipment such as backhoes and track hoes.
  4. Install bracing, blocking and strap fittings, pipes, valves, cut and cap mains.
  5. Calculate the requirements and requisition concrete, road gravel, fill sand and asphalt.
  6. Maintain and replace fire hydrants, notify the supervisor of fire hydrant part changes, meet with Fire Department officials when needed. 
  7. Replace and restore paving, concrete and landscaping

  1. Flush mains and service lines after water mains have been installed or repaired.
  2. Communicate with customers by providing excellent customer service while performing duties.
  3. Operate the assigned vehicle, keep it clean and report all mechanical problems. Maintain a valid driver’s license.
  4. Adhere to all traffic laws and safety policies and procedures when driving company vehicles.
  5. Work an on-call rotating schedule outside the regular schedule on a rotating basis.
  6. Perform all work safely in accordance with established safety policies and procedures. Comply with all safety and health standards and guidelines issued by management.
  7. Perform other duties as assigned.

Education

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent is required. 

 

Experience

Experience:

Two (2) years of construction experience required. Basic computer skills preferred; excellent customer relation and communication skills preferred

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) class A required
  • ADEM Grade I Certification preferred

None

  • Ability to stand, walk or sit for extended periods
  • Reaching by excreting hand(s) or arms(s) in any direction
  • Finger dexterity is required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard
  • Communication skills using the spoken word
  • Ability to see within normal parameters
  • Ability to hear within normal parameters
  • Ability to move about
  • Ability to lift 100 pounds

Work Enviroment

Indoors and outdoors; Loud Noise

Ability to work near moving mechanical parts

Outdoors exposed to extreme hot/cold and or wet weather conditions.
