The Underwriter Intern is an introductory level underwriter, usually a college student or recent graduate, with limited prior professional experience, and is anticipated to require ongoing supervision. This job is responsible for performing basic underwriting functions under approved guidelines for routine / less complicated cases. The responsibilities of this job include learning and applying underwriting concepts and the business of Delta Dental to make sound risk and financial decisions regarding Delta's commercial book of business.
- Performs comprehensive client-specific experience analysis to provide appropriate rates based on risk assessment and evaluation of smaller or less complex cases.
- Works with fellow underwriting team members through underwriting peer review process.
- Advises and provides guidance to sales and other internal customers on the underwriting rationale.
- 0+ w/Bachelor’s degree
- Candidates with proven related experience may be considered for this position. Candidate should be enrolled in Mathematics, Finance, Accounting or similar course of study.
- Intermediate communication skills, written and verbal, are required.
- Intermediate mathematics knowledge is required.
- Candidate must be detail-oriented with analytical and problem solving skills.
Base Pay Information
The national base pay range at the end is a good-faith estimate of what Delta Dental may pay for new hires. Actual pay may vary based on Delta Dental’s assessment of the candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities (KSAs), related experience, education, certifications and ability to meet required minimum job qualifications. Other factors impacting pay include prevailing wages in the work location and internal equity. $46,359.14 - $93,100
