Job Details:
Purpose
Assist with routine lab maintenance and preparation of standard reagents to ensure a clean, organized, and efficient research environment.
Responsibilities
Autoclave glassware and pipette tips
Load dishwasher
Refill bottles by sink (ethanol, bleach, isopropanol, water, soap)
Refill paper towel containers
Prepare SDS PAGE gels
Prepare LB Agar plates
Prepare buffers (TGS & TAE)
Prepare antibiotics (Carbenicillin, Ampicillin, Chloramphenicol, Kanamycin)
Prepare -20 degree aliquots (BSA, IPTG, DTT)
Assist researchers with tasks/experiments
Help organize the lab
Keep benches/scale room tidy
Required Qualifications
Current UT Austin undergraduate student
Able to work up to ~10 hours/week with time daily
Reliable, organized, and able to follow lab safety and written instructions
Comfortable doing routine tasks (washing, autoclaving, preparing common solutions) and working in a shared lab space
Preferred Qualifications
Major/minor in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field
Prior wet-lab experience (course lab or research lab) is a plus, but not required
Familiarity with basic lab techniques (pipetting, making buffers, preparing agar plates, SDS-PAGE gels) is a plus
Hourly Rate
$15 - $20/hour (depending on qualifications)
Working Conditions
Uniforms and/or personal protection equipment (furnished).
May work around chemical fumes.
May work around standard office conditions.
May work around biohazards.
May work around chemicals.
