Summary/Objective A Turfgrass Intern member will have a primary day-to-day responsibility to perform landscaping tasks using power equipment and hand tools to assist in golf course turf maintenance, course set- up, and irrigation.
- Operates a variety of maintenance equipment such as shovels, rakes, saws, or other hand tools to complete assignments.
- Operates power equipment and other vehicles such as tractors, mowers, chainsaws, electric clippers, or other similar machines.
- Excavates and backfills ditches and trenches.
- Plans and cultivate lawns, turf, or gardens and determine further work that should occur based on landscaping designs.
- Performs regular and seasonal maintenance on irrigations systems.
- Cuts and trims golf course greens, fairways, trees, weeds, brush, tees, and roughs.
- Grades and prepares base, lays sod and seeds greens, tees, and fairways.
- Apply fertilizers, herbicides, and insecticides onto grass, shrubs, or trees by spraying or spreading.
- Maintains cleanliness of all golf course equipment and participates in daily setup for play with course set up and maintenance.

This internship is part of the Legacy Trails Internship Program, which emphasizes professional development through guided mentorship, weekly leadership sessions, and a summer-long Leadership & Legacy Capstone Project. Interns will rotate through a variety of responsibilities within their role to gain a broad and practical understanding of their field while contributing meaningfully to the mission of the Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation
Supervisory Requirements
- May supervise other Golf Grounds workers as needed.
Required Skills/Abilities
Excellent verbal communication skills. Reliable, on time, and ready for every shift. Provide outstanding guest service.
Required Education and Experience
Must have a clean U.S. Driver’s License and be able to drive a 14-passenger van. Must give exceptional service to all guests. Must be able to troubleshoot and create solutions if needed. Previous experience with golf courses or driving ranges preferred. Must be able to work in outdoor environments. Must be fluent in English, bilingual a plus.
Work Environment
This position is generally an outdoor position which involves working in hot, humid conditions and various weather elements. Shift hours are primarily 5:30am-2:00pm.
Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is continuously required to talk, hear, hand/eye coordination, stand, walk, have repetitive use of hands and arms, and grasp. Visual acuity to determine accuracy, details and transcribe data, determine neatness and thoroughness of work assigned, and determine safety of workplace surroundings for themselves and guests. Frequently required to push, pull, stoop, bend, lift and carry up to 25 pounds. Occasionally will lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Must be able to work long hours and available for evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
