Role:
Under the general supervision of the Road and Bridge Lead Truck Driver, the Truck Driver Class B Operator is responsible for the safe operating procedures of dump trucks and heavy equipment. They are primarily responsible for the driving and operating a dump truck or 10-wheel truck and operating heavy equipment.
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all minimum requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Minimum Requirements:
Driving Requirement: Must have a valid Kansas Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B and be insurable with the Nation's insurance.
Experience: Two to three years of dump truck experience and heavy equipment operator.
Education: A HS diploma or GED.
Interpersonal Skills: Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essentials elements of the job. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the PBPN for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation.
Knowledge:
- Thorough knowledge of traffic laws and defensive driving
- Safely operate and maintain equipment and vehicles used daily.
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance
Skills:
- Plan route to insure most economical use of time and equipment, work independently, perform routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
- Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times
Abilities:
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public. Ability to safely drive various vehicles.
- Ability to judge perception which of several objects is closer or farther away from you, or to judge the distance between you and an object.
- Near Vision - the ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer)
- Far Vision - the ability to see details at a distance.
- Ability to perform heavy manual tasks under varying weather conditions
