Are you energized by collaborating with others, solving complex challenges and improving how transportation projects are delivered across Michigan? Do you enjoy serving as the connection between project managers and technical teams while using data to drive informed decisions? This position offers the opportunity to serve as the Michigan Department of Transportation’s (MDOT) statewide technical expert for project scheduling for the project development phase, partnering with project managers, specialty units, department leadership, and external stakeholders to support successful project delivery. You'll analyze statewide project data, identify opportunities for improvement, develop reports and documentation that support both department leadership and Michigan's contracting community, and help communicate the impact of MDOT's transportation program at conferences and industry events.

You'll thrive in this role if you enjoy solving complex problems, building collaborative relationships, and translating technical information into meaningful solutions. Success comes from combining strong analytical and communication skills with sound engineering judgment and a strategic mindset. In this role, you'll collaborate with project managers, technical experts, information technology staff, vendors, and department leadership to improve statewide scheduling processes, develop practical solutions, and create the tools, guidance, and training that support consistent project delivery across Michigan.

As the next transportation engineer licensed specialist, you will be responsible for:

  • Serving as the technical expert in supporting the schedule of all design projects, providing technical expertise to project managers on how to build and manage their project schedule to create statewide scheduling alignment.
  • Supporting appropriate engineering standards and judgement being applied and that the process contains the right steps to be state and federal compliant.
  • Coordinating internal and external teams to unify efforts and ensure best use of departmental information technology (IT) funds and efficient implementation of efforts from groups involved to support scheduling needs.
  • Receiving, resolving and responding to customer scheduling concerns and making decisions based on engineering knowledge to resolve internal and external customer scheduling issues per organizational policies.
  • Presenting at and participating in meetings with various groups and at various conferences to help facilitate updates, changes and knowledge of new methods and procedures in project scheduling statewide as needed.
