Traffic Safety Coordinator

About the Job:

The Traffic Safety Coordinator is an entry-level professional position that encompasses responsibility for establishing and conducting traffic-related activities including identifying, collecting, analyzing, and presenting traffic-safety related data; incorporating data into tribal strategic planning, programming, and implementation; and organizing groups, events, and activities to increase community awareness of traffic-safety related issues. Assignment to this position is based on need and requires compliance with the job qualifications.

Here’s what you’ll be doing:

• Organize groups, events, and activities to increase community awareness.
• Develop and implement an annual communications plan.
• Identify, collect, analyze, and present existing traffic safety-related data within the tribal service area.
• Work to establish a local traffic safety committee and administer bi-monthly meetings.
• Lead the local traffic safety committee in strategic and communication planning within first six months.
• Submit progress reports, and if required, conduct on-site review reports.
• Develop and implement at least four culturally relevant traffic safety initiatives.
• Establish relationship with local media, including the Tribal website, Facebook pages, and other social media platforms and newspapers/newsletter staff to promote tribal traffic safety initiatives.
• Develop/adapt and present traffic safety education programs and activities for schools and community organizations.
• Conduct, analyze and evaluate seatbelt/child safety seat, pedestrian, and other traffic safety related surveys.
• Develop tribal specific or utilize national media materials for highway safety mobilizations.
• Assist with grant administration.
• Performs other duties as required to accomplish the objectives of the position.

What you’ll need to be successful:

• Requires an Associate’s Degree with an emphasis in Health Education, Communications, and/or Public Administration or closely related field.
• Two years of experience in the following areas: community organizing, program coordination, or community-based programs involving youth, drug/alcohol/tobacco abuse, law enforcement, EMS or other related community health prevention or counseling, identifying, collecting, analyzing, and presenting data and developing strategy planning, programming, and implementation.
• A High School Diploma and 5 years’ experience in the areas listed above may substitute for degree.
• Ability to create and sustain effective relationships with tribal, federal, state and community partners, present ideas clearly, and resolve conflict.
• Ability to facilitate groups, organize and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
• Requires capability to write and verbal communications skills with the ability to lead meetings, write local news articles, develop/assist with grant proposals and deliver professional presentations.
• Possess excellent time management and ability to work independently.
• Experience in grant compliance and management.
• Flexible schedules to attend various meetings and events that may be outside the normal workweek.
• Requires the aptitude to learn all applicable laws, codes, ordinances, and regulations governing traffic safety systems.
• Must be proficient in Windows Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Must have a valid, clean driver’s license and be at least 21 years of age.
• Must successfully pass all applicable background checks and drug screens
