About the Role

Located in Cambridge, Southern Tasmania, this permanent full time Trade Assistant position offers the opportunity to work under the guidance of experienced tradespeople, gaining hands-on experience across a broad range of equipment, including:

  • Heavy diesel trucks and vehicles
  • Mobile plant and machinery
  • Emergency service operations.

You will learn to

  • Assist with design, build, maintenance and repairs
  • Diagnose mechanical and basic electrical faults
  • Use tools, diagnostic equipment, and workshop systems safely
  • Follow workplace safety, quality, and environmental procedures
  • Develop skills across multiple disciplines

Who Should Apply

  • School leavers or young apprentices
  • Mature-aged apprentices
  • Fully qualified tradespeople (e.g. Light Vehicle, Automotive, Auto Electrical) looking to complete a second trade
  • Anyone with a genuine interest in Vehicle Fabrication.

About You

  • Have a genuine interest in heavy diesel and machinery
  • Strong work ethic and positive attitude
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Previous experience is an advantage but not essential
  • Current manual driver’s licence (or working towards)

Desirable Requirements

  • A current unrestricted Drivers Licence.
  • Forklift licence.
  • Medium / Heavy Vehicle Licence.
  • Practical experience working within the automotive industry.

Essential Requirements

Any relevant serious criminal offence or repeated serious offences over any period, which are not mitigated by additional information, may provide grounds for declining an application for appointment.   • Dishonesty (e.g. theft, burglary, breaking and entering, fraud);
  • Deception (e.g. obtaining an advantage by deception);
  • Making false declarations;

  • Malicious damage and destruction to property
  • Trafficking of narcotic substance;
  • False alarm raising.
