The iPhone Touch team is looking for a talented mechanical engineer to influence new designs as well as own and drive the validation of new products and sensing technologies. You will work within a cross-functional team of experts to ship products that surprise and delight our customers and break new ground in technology. Millions of customers will interact with the hardware you invent, develop, and validate.
Description
You will work on the mechanical design, integration, and validation of the next generation iPhone touch sensors. You will work with and learn from a talented group of engineers with expertise in electrical engineering, thin-films, quality, process, reliability, and more. As your expertise grows within the role, you will inform hardware designs to enhance and create new customer experiences. As one of the mechanical experts of Touch technology on your project, your activities will include: - Identifying/brainstorming design solutions, grading risk, and informing final design. - Leading a cross-functional team through failure analysis to identify root-cause and inform corrective actions. - Coordinating and managing the path-to-closure on complex issues. - Applying rigorous and thoughtful experimental design to reduce design risk/uncertainty as quickly as possible. - Running tolerance studies to ensure designs are feasible over manufacturing tolerances. - Communicating to Apple's engineering leadership in concise, comprehensive technical depth. In the prototyping and validation phases, you will support external manufacturing vendors with failure analysis and root cause analysis as part of product development and process development. Support for our vendors includes international travel between 5%-15%
Minimum Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in a mechanical design, failure analysis, or validation role.
- Ability to collaborate with a diverse cross-functional team and external vendors to achieve project goals.
- Familiarity with analysis techniques (tolerance analysis, Monte Carlo analsyis, FEA, CT, X-ray, FIB/SEM/EDX, design-of-experiments, etc.) to inform failure analysis and root cause analysis.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong technical curiosity and desire to learn
- Ability to inform design intent (requirements) and to define path-to-validation
- Excellent written, verbal, visual, and interpersonal communication skills
- Proficiency in statistical analysis in MATLAB or JMP
- Familiarity with building 3D CAD and drafting 2D technical drawings
- Familiarity with sensor technology, analog/digital signals, flex circuits, IC packaging
Pay & Benefits
- At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $121,900 and $214,500, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
