Description

Summary

To receive, store, and issue hand tools, machine tools, perishables, materials, project related equipment, and other miscellaneous equipment to employees (in-shop and field technicians) and maintain records of tools and equipment issued and returned, manually and in the computer. Provide leadership through mentoring junior team members, optimizing inventory workflows, implementing preventive maintenance schedules, and collaborating with department heads to align tool management with project priorities. Demonstrate accountability by maintaining equipment quality standards, identifying opportunities for process improvement, and ensuring all team members follow established safety protocols and handling procedures.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.

  • Receive, store, and issue all perishables, tooling and equipment that resides in the tool crib 
  • Select appropriate tooling and equipment to support the shop personnel, leveraging extensive knowledge of tool applications, capabilities, and compatibility with various materials and projects 
  • Select appropriate tooling and equipment to support the mobilization of field jobs, anticipating needs based on job specifications and environment 
  • Maintain records of tooling and equipment issued and returned both manually and electronically 
  • Mentor and train other personnel on proper tool selection, usage, and maintenance procedures · Ensure all equipment is in appropriate location 
  • Utilize and maintain accurate records in TRACE 
  • Lead inventory optimization initiatives to reduce costs while ensuring critical tools remain available 
  • Load and unload trucks both manually and/or through use of a forklift or overhead crane 
  • Perform shipping and receiving activities for UPS and/or FedEx 
  • Purchase assigned materials for the Tool Crib and other items as directed by Purchasing 
  • Issue requisitions to Purchasing to replenish stock, demonstrating strategic forecasting of tool needs based on upcoming project schedules 
  • Complete appropriate paperwork 
  • Coordinate with department supervisors to align tool crib operations with production priorities 
  • Identify and recommend tool upgrades or replacements to improve efficiency and safety 
  • Maintain a safe, orderly, and clean work area, and proactively enforce safety standards for all tool crib operations 
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on specialty tools, their applications, and proper handling procedures

Requirements

Qualifications

Education

High school diploma or GED certificate, preferred


Experience & Skills

  • 3-5 years of experience in a related role
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints & mechanical drawings
  • Knowledge of carbide drills, end mills, inserted cutters, and boring tooling
  • Ability to measure/inspect: lengths, diameters, straightness, flatness, etc
  • Machining experience, preferred
  • Proficient computer-based skills, such as e-mail, outlook, Microsoft excel, word, etc.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret internal documents such as safety rules, production schedules, purchase orders, maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with customers, vendors and other employees of the organization.


Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.


Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of specifications and information furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
