QUALIFICATIONS AND WORK EXPERIENCE:
• A 4yr college degree in ministry or related field, or 5 years of equivalent life/work experience.
• Extensive knowledge of and experience with Salvation Army youth and young adult ministries and programs.
• Personal experience with Salvation Army event planning, execution and follow up.
• Deep knowledge of and experience with leadership development and training in youth and young adult ministry
• An active uniformed Salvationist who follows Salvation Army doctrines, theology and practices.
• Extensive knowledge and experience in Salvation Army Camping programs
• Ability and experience in teaching, preaching and creating dynamic and innovative presentations for youth, young adults and youth leaders.
• Proven experience keeping abreast with cultural changes, challenges, and effective youth ministry strategies
• Demonstrated a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, InDesign, Web based applications
• Extensive expertise and proven experience in utilizing and developing social media for ministry.
• Demonstrated advanced skills with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other online social media tools
SCOPE OF POSITION:
The Territorial Youth Program Specialist (YPS) is an active and productive member of the Youth Department who is well versed in Salvation Army youth and young adult ministries and programs. The YPS will be responsible for helping champion youth and young adult ministry throughout the territory, and assist in the planning, execution and follow up on youth, young adult retreats, and youth leader training events. In addition, the YPS will be responsible for helping promote, implement and support Salvation Army National Programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. DEPARTMENTAL DUTIES
1. Assist the TYS in coordinating bi-weekly youth department staff meetings.
2. Assist TYS with the territorial youth department budget planning and the provision of monthly reporting to the Assistant Secretary for Program.
3. Provide creative expertise and planning in all areas of Salvation Army youth programming and events.
4. Encourage the development of core Salvation Army youth and young adult programming throughout the territory.
5. Lead the planning, promotion and execution of the Territorial Youth Leaders Conference every other year.
6. Assist in the planning, promotion and execution of all territorial youth events such as Anthem, the Territorial Youth Leaders Conference, Divisional Youth Leaders Conference and other events.
7. Monitor and research statistics for all youth and young adult programming across the territory.
8. Assist the TYS in preparing reports and recommendations on youth programming for territorial leadership
9. Maintain current and up-to-date records and files for related responsibilities.
10. Research and report on cultural change, ministry trends and latest effective ministry strategies.
11. Conduct the normal handling of correspondence and office management as related to the primary responsibilities.
12. Represent the department and territory at various assigned seminars and conferences as assigned.
13. Serve on territorial and national committees as appointed.
14. Support, attend and participate in Divisional Youth Retreats and/or young adult as requested.
B. LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
15. Promote, recruit and process candidates for the FORGED youth leadership training program in partnership with Asbury University.
16. Responsible for exploring topics and creating content for the “Learning To Love” series of leadership training with TYS’ approval.
17. Responsible for the development, coordination and promotion of leadership training material and events for young adults and teens for use both online and in person.
18. Write, edit and produce Salvation Army leadership training and program materials for use by Salvation Army leaders at corps, divisional or territorial level
19. Assist the TYS in the coordination, promotion, and organization of territorial and regional youth leadership training events
20. Promote young adult and teenage ministries throughout the territory
