This is a paid temporary position limited to a maximum of 9 months from the date of hire. In addition to being a fantastic place to work, CDOT offers all temporary employees paid sick leave. Temporary employees accrue one hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked, capped at 48 hours.

Examples of duties

What You Will Do

No two days are exactly the same in CDOT maintenance. Your daily work activities change based on project needs and also vary based on weather. Your main job activities include:

  • Assist in the maintenance of the rest area and roadside appearance, including mowing, weeding, fertilizing, and tree trimming;

  • Repair and paint picnic tables;

  • Repair irrigation systems;

  • Maintain lighting;

  • Ensure cleanliness of restrooms;

  • Sweep around buildings, sidewalks, and trailers;

  • Empty trash cans and maintain smoking area;

  • Level ground where there are washouts;

  • Assist with the remodeling of offices, additions to buildings, and new construction;

  • Assist with maintenance of key and lock systems;

  • Assist in the installation/repair of roofs and garage doors;

  • Assist with the installation and repair of concrete;

  • Perform minor plumbing installations and repair;

  • Assist with the installation and repair of water heaters, HVAC, boilers, circulating pumps, and thermostats;

  • Perform snow removal in parking lots and sidewalks;

  • Respond during snow events to perform duties;

  • Assist in road closures and traffic control;

  • Assist in safety repairs and inspections with the local fire department;

  • Use a forklift or front-end loader to haul materials;

  • Use a variety of hand tools, such as weed whackers, shovels, saws, tree trimmers, brooms, etc.;

  • Operate light to heavy equipment, such as snow blowers, garden tractors, mowers, and front-end loaders;

  • Use computers for timesheet, billing, work orders, etc.;

  • Other duties as assigned.
