Telecommunications Network Optical Engineer

Crafting the right network, with the right equipment and software, requires a combination of technical skill and careful planning. That’s why we need you, an experienced Network Engineer who knows how to develop the exact network the DoD needs.  

As a Telecommunication Network Optical Engineer on our team, you’ll use your experience in network design, implementation, and sustainment to support the nation’s defense and respond to evolving adversaries. You’ll assist with the design of new networks, you'll analyze existing infrastructures, and you'll increase security, reliability, and availability for mission-critical network systems. You’ll apply your expertise in routing and switching, network design and architecture, and network transport layers as you join our team of problem-solvers to help the DoD evolve and deploy new capabilities and technologies. Your knowledge of network protocols, telecommunications network equipment, and configurations will come in handy as you optimize client operations and modernization. Using your experience in optical infrastructure networking you’ll serve as a trusted advisor to clients on mission-critical projects. Using your experience overseeing telecommunications vendors you’ll ensure network services are successfully and securely provisioned. Using your technical curiosity and knowledge of industry standards, you’ll make an impact on national security missions.

You Have:  

  • Experience with performing professional engineering assignments to support telecommunication systems design, implementation, service provisioning, and sustainment 

  • Experience with diagraming network topologies using Microsoft Visio 

  • Knowledge of fiber optic communications, switched networks, network management, and network control systems 

  • TS/SCI clearance  

  • Bachelor's degree and 8+ years of experience with telecommunication systems or 12+ years of experience with telecommunications systems in lieu of a degree 

Nice If You Have:  

  • Experience with performing fiber route analysis using .kmz files or Google Earth 

  • Experience with circuit based transport solutions and G.709 

  • Experience with multi-vendor test sets from the physical layer through the IP address layer 

  • Experience with reading Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) and Optical Signal Noise to Ratio (OSNR) 

  • Experience working in a Program Management Office and performing vendor oversight 

  • Experience leading projects and interfacing with senior clients and vendors 

  • Ability to create or maintain formal engineering documents, including Bills of Material (BOMs), Request for Change (RFC), Request for Information (RFI), and Request for Service (RFS) 

  • BICSI Certification

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements.
