At GE Vernova Advanced Research, we have a critical role to play in shaping a clean energy future. As a Technician in the Aerodynamics & Thermosciences lab, you will work with a cross-disciplinary team of Researchers to develop new aerodynamic, thermal, and combustion technologies for GE Vernova products, including and not limited to gas turbines, wind turbines, carbon capture and other thermal systems. The successful candidate will work with a team of Researchers to design, build, and instrument sophisticated test rigs and assist in running experiments.
Job Description
With periodic guidance, the successful candidate will:
Collaborate with a world-class team of researchers developing novel component and system solutions for GE Vernova customers and our external partners
Design, build, and execute experiments using a variety of measurement tools and experimental techniques in fluid dynamics and thermal systems, including thermocouples, RTD’s, infrared cameras, flow meters and pressure probes.
Assemble a bill of materials and procure parts and materials to build prototype mechanical and electrical test hardware and systems.
Assemble and instrument complex prototype models for testing in aerodynamic, heat transfer, and combustion rigs.
Support the implementation and maintenance of experimental systems of varying complexity that may require high pressures, elevated temperatures, large flows, and elevated noise.
Support the operation of compressor systems, preheaters, and exhauster/blowers.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Associates degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or closely related field with a minimum of 7 years of experience in laboratory or research work
“Safety first” mindset for themselves and those around them.
A demonstrated record of being able to develop innovative solutions to complex problems, then design and build quality hardware solutions.
Ability to troubleshoot test equipment and identify root cause/corrective actions.
Basic knowledge of flow characterization equipment: thermocouples, pressure transducers, and data acquisition systems.
Familiarity with machine shop equipment such as mills, grinders, and lathes, as well as hand and power tools with a variety of materials (wood, plastic, and various metals).
Ability to understand, use, and write technical documents and procedures.
Ability to work during first shift, with the possible requirement to work 2nd or 3rd shift under some situations.
Ability to operate overhead crane, chair falls, and rigging to assemble test hardware.
