Technical Specialist I - Special Coagulation

The Special Coagulation Laboratory offers a comprehensive repertoire of coagulation tests covering a wide spectrum of bleeding and thrombotic disorders. We offer testing both on an individual basis and in algorithmic testing profiles. Our testing is performed using a variety of methods spanning highly automated to complex manual. We work with consulting clinicians and hematopathologist who provide our profile interpretations. Coagulation is a complex biological process and being involved, through our testing, in the diagnosis and management of patients with these disorders provides a challenging, yet rewarding work environment.
As a Technical Specialist within the Special Coagulation Laboratory, you will work with technical specialist II, technical specialist coordinator, and the laboratory management team to provide direction for the technical operation of the laboratory, including operation maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory instruments and assays. Additional responsibilities include:
- Validating and documenting operational changes using the test life cycle process (TLCP)
- Providing direction for operational workflow, and serving as an expert resource for the work unit, including laboratory technologists
- Actively partnering with team members by fostering an inclusive work environment and respecting others with different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives
*Individuals hired to this position are required to complete 2 years in this position before becoming eligible to apply to other positions within Mayo Clinic.
**This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship with the exception of the TN visa classification; Also, Mayo Clinic DOES NOT participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.
To be considered for this position, you must meet the following qualifications.
- Bachelor's degree in clinical/medical laboratory science (CLS/MLS), medical technology (MT), chemistry, or a biological science and two years of relevant laboratory experience, OR
- Bachelor's degree in addition to a certificate in MLS, and two years of relevant laboratory experience
*HEW certificate may be substituted for the specified degree.
Additional Qualifications
- Experience with operation and troubleshooting of laboratory instruments and assays.
- Capable of performing under time constraints, multi-tasking, and working in a fast-paced and changing environment.
- Demonstrates self-motivation, attention to detail and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently. ASCP or other certification pertinent to the laboratory field may be required depending on the laboratory specialty and prevailing regulatory requirements.
