About the role
The Technical Editor supports the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Environmental Management Los Alamos Field Office (EM-LA) Technical Assistance Contract (TAC) and reports directly to the Program Lead. The Technical Editor works closely with the DOE EM-LA Quality Assurance organization, other EM-LA DOE staff, TAC staff, and N3B staff.
- Review materials, including correspondence, procedures, reports, and presentations submitted by technical staff for clarity, punctuation, grammar, spelling, style, formatting, and content. Conform to EM-LA templates and editing requirements. Work closely with EM-LA and TAC staff to ensure accuracy and consistency of correspondence and documents.
- Write and prepare technical documents, materials, design graphics and layout, create training manuals, maintain websites, and develop Web content.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in related field (or 8 years’ relative experience)
Experience
- Minimum of three years’ experience
License, Cert or Registration
- None
Special knowledge, skills, & abilities
- Strong computer and word processing skills, in addition to writing, editing, proofreading, and page composition skills.
- Ability to author or perform editorial reviews on all forms of technical documentation and related materials including grammar and formatting for consistency and coherency.
- Ability to write and edit technical content and make complex topics easy to understand.
- Outstanding attention to detail.
- Able to communicate goals with others and provide constructive feedback so that writing meets EM-LA guidelines.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects and prioritize accordingly to ensure competing deadlines are met with little to no supervision.
- Experience working in technical fields in Los Alamos preferred
- Experience working in environmental management and/or waste management preferred
- Additional coursework in desktop publishing, multimedia production, and online documentation software preferred
- Graphic design and web content development capabilities preferred
