Job Overview

The Software Engineering Manager reports directly to the Director of Engineering and plays a pivotal role in guiding the team's technical direction and integration with enterprise solutions. They forge effective partnerships across Macy’s Technology.

Collaborating with stakeholders at various levels, including senior leadership, departmental management, project teams, Infrastructure and Field Services leaders, and enterprise architects, the Manager contributes to architecture, requirements, and implementation of technical solutions. They possess a blend of systems and technology expertise, coupled with strong thought leadership, enabling them to make well-balanced technical decisions that deliver essential features to support business objectives.

The Software Engineering Manager advocates for the adoption of modern software development practices, particularly focusing on automation and Reliability Engineering. They build and lead high-performing software engineering teams dedicated to delivering and supporting omni-channel applications and services swiftly and efficiently. Additionally, they drive innovation in both technology and processes, inspiring teams to achieve exceptional results within a fast-paced environment.

What You Will Do

• Recruit, mentor, and guide individuals to establish a robust cross-functional team. • Design and develop scalable software solutions.
• Establish and oversee software delivery processes, systems integration, and developer support tools.
• Collaborate with technical teams to ensure efficient realization of technical strategies, architecture guidelines, and standards across various projects.
• Lead technology assessments in critical areas, working closely with cross-functional teams.
• Coordinate and supervise geographically dispersed engineering scrum-teams, applying agile development and DevOps best practices.
• Propose innovative ideas regularly to enhance customer outcomes. Define clear, measurable quality objectives for the organization based on data-driven insights.
• Cultivate a culture of ongoing engineering enhancement through mentorship, feedback mechanisms, and performance metrics.

Skills You Will Need

Leadership and Collaboration: Proven ability to forge effective partnerships across various organizational levels and collaborate with stakeholders to drive technical direction and integration with enterprise solutions.

Strategic Thinking: Strong thought leadership and the ability to make well-balanced technical decisions that align with business objectives.

Innovation and Problem-Solving: Track record of driving innovation in both technology and processes to achieve exceptional results within a fast-paced environment.

Technical Expertise: Broad and deep understanding of relevant technologies, including Java, Spring framework, ReactJS/Angular, modern system architecture patterns, Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform), cloud service providers (preferably GCP), modern SQL/noSQL databases, and data management principles.

Project Management: Ability to effectively manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and communicate timelines to team members while maintaining product/project ownership.

Communication Skills: Effective communication of technical information and solutions to stakeholders at all levels of the business.

Vendor Solution Implementation: Preferred experience in implementing third-party packaged software solutions such as MDM, ERP, or WMS.

Adaptability and Time Management: Ability to adapt to changing priorities, identify primary and secondary objectives, and prioritize time effectively.

Artificial Intelligence: Experience or knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies like GenAI and Co-pilot, enabling efficient utilization of AI tools in software engineering processes and decision-making.
