Tax Associate

Position is responsible for the preparation of state and local sales, use, property, and excise tax returns. Additional functions include providing audit support for state income, franchise, and sales and use tax, assisting tax team with sales and use tax processes and process improvements, and performing tax research as needed.  This position also works closely with accounts payable/receivable and other departments as necessary to obtain information for the accurate and timely reporting of tax information. This is a hybrid role; we work onsite 4 days and remotely 1 day weekly.

 

Responsibilities:

Sales & Use / Indirect Tax

• Assist with monthly sales tax processes utilizing Vertex software (system administration, importing/reconciling data, preparing journal entries as needed)
• Preparation of monthly sales tax account reconciliations and analysis as required
• Complete various miscellaneous state indirect tax returns
• Assist in problem resolution in the filing of sales and use tax returns and processes

Sales & Use / State Income tax audits

• Assist with state income and sales and use tax audits
• Work to reduce future exposure to assessments through process improvement and data management
• Research and resolve indirect tax notices as they are received

Business Licenses

• Assist and prepare license renewals for store locations each month
• Maintain process to ensure current and timely payments

Requirements:

• Associates Degree in Accounting and/or equivalent work experience
• Minimum of 1 years of experience in Corporate Tax, Corporate Accounting, or public accounting firm

Preferred Skills and Industry experience: 

• Experience in State and local reporting
• Knowledge of multi-state sales/use tax laws
• Strong analytical and organizational skills
• Strong technology skills: specifically related to reporting and compliance; to include Excel, Word, Vertex, SAP, Docuware, SharePoint, Alteryx or similar
• Experience in business license renewals
