POSITION SUMMARY:
This is an exciting opportunity within FDLE’s Information Technology Services (ITS) Division. The selected candidate will serve as a Java software developer in the development and maintenance of critical FDLE information systems through all stages of the application life cycle (design, review, testing, documentation, programming, and deployment). The developer will be part of team that has an assigned business analyst that collects requirements from the customer. The developer is responsible for writing and testing all programming changes to ensure new functions work as designed and existing functions continue to work according to requirements. The person in this position will work closely with their manager to learn the division procedures and processes.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Specific duties include:
- Developing software using the approved development tools and languages, while also performing testing on applications developed or maintained within Business Systems Engineering (BSE) / ITS;
- Documenting all coding changes within the software itself, the source code repository, to ensure the system can be easily maintained in the future;
- Testing thoroughly the software or computer process developed to ensure new functions work as designed and existing functions continue to work per requirements;
- Considering thoroughly time estimates of work and properly plan for delivery within the time frame provided to their manager;
- Working with FDLE Staff and customer representatives to assist with analysis and design solutions, as needed;
- Creating process flow diagrams and design documentation using various standard practices;
- Staging the software, writing implementation plans, coordinating and hosting meeting(s) in preparation of production implementation;
- Creating and maintaining documentation for programming, operations and maintenance, and end users regarding the databases and related applications and systems; and
- Designing and writing standard and ad hoc reports as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of object-oriented design principles used in computer programming;
- Knowledge of developing computer programs using MS-SQL Server and/or Oracle relational databases;
- Skilled in developing computer programs with Java, as well as various other programming languages;
- Skilled in testing techniques for computer applications to find defects prior to releasing for customer testing;
