Koniag IT Systems LLC, a Koniag Government Services company, is seeking a Systems Engineer to support KITS and our government customer in Washington, DC. This is a hybrid opportunity, requires 3days onsite and 2days remote. This position is for a Future New Business Opportunity.

We are looking for a highly qualified, experienced and self-motivated individual to perform the duties of a Systems Engineer to support a potential future business opportunity located in Washington, DC.
The ideal Systems Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining enterprise servers and virtualization systems to ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of the organization’s infrastructure. This role supports both virtualized and physical environments, contributes to the development of system documentation, and drives improvements through process automation and orchestration.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
• Design, document, and implement server solutions, including replication, backup, and disaster recovery.
• Support server technologies for both virtualized (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and non-virtualized environments.
• Configure, implement, and upgrade new and existing computer systems and server platforms.
• Perform system analysis, including I/O optimization, capacity planning, and architectural review.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for system configurations, procedures, and infrastructure designs.
• Provide recommendations for system enhancements, upgrades, and additions to meet business objectives.
• Perform operating system upgrades and implement system improvements.
• Develop and execute tests to ensure systems meet documented user and performance requirements.
• Enhance operational efficiency through orchestration, automation, and process improvement.
• Establish and maintain procedures to ensure system reliability, security, and compliance.
• Provide consultation on standards, policies, principles, and best practices related to system engineering.
• Research and analyze system and network designs to assist with troubleshooting and issue resolution.
• Apply process improvement methodologies such as the Capability Maturity Model (CMM) to improve service delivery.
• Communicate complex technical information clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Provide data and documentation in support of internal and external audits.
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 3–5+ years of experience in system engineering, server administration, or infrastructure support.
• Proven experience designing and maintaining virtualized server environments.
• Experience supporting enterprise infrastructure in medium to large-scale environments.
Required Skills and Competencies:
• Strong knowledge of server virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V, Nutanix).
• Proficiency with operating systems such as Microsoft Windows Server and Linux distributions.
• Experience with enterprise technologies including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.
• Familiarity with scripting and automation (PowerShell, Bash, Ansible, or similar).
• Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, storage systems, and disaster recovery principles.
• Ability to perform system analysis and capacity planning.
• Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and analytical skills.
• Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational abilities.
Desired Skills and Competencies:
• Experience with cloud and hybrid environments (Azure, AWS, or similar).
• Knowledge of monitoring and management tools (e.g., SolarWinds, vCenter, System Center).
• Familiarity with IT service management frameworks such as ITIL.
• Understanding of process improvement methodologies such as CMMI.
• Relevant industry certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, VMware Certified Professional, CompTIA Server+).
• Experience with infrastructure automation or orchestration platforms (e.g., Terraform, Puppet, or Chef).
