The switch machine operator performs various duties associated with the assembly of switch machines along with sub assemblies involving numerous tools and presses with the assistance of prints and work instructions.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

Utilize and interpret engineering mechanical schematics, plans, and prints to assemble and wire railroad switch machines for railroad signalling.

Work from complex written instructions, drawings, and /or documentation to determine methods of mechanical builds

Strong attention to details.

Work as an effective team member focused on meeting/exceeding business goals and creating a safe working environment and culture.

Use hand tools, torque tools, rivoters, drill presses, hand presses, overhead cranes, and power tools to perform work.

Work with certain chemicals: rust veto, grease, lubricating oil, and loctite

Proactively work with others to increase productivity and reduce cost.

Meet/exceed department metrics to include; efficiency, utilization rates, DPMO (Defects per Million Opportunities)

 

Qualification/Requirements:

High School Diploma / GED

Ability to multitask and work independently

Ability to use tools including: hand tools, power tools and presses

Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds

Ability to bend, stoop, squat, stretch, and reach

Ability to distinguish basic colors

Ability to read and understand fractions

Ability to stand on feet for long periods of time

 

Desired Characteristics:

Previous forklift experience

Possess a basic mechanical aptitude, with the ability to interpret drawings and work instructions

Previous experience with power tools, drill presses, hand presses, overhead cranes

Demonstrated strong problem solving skills

Previous  experience reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and specifications
