The American Heart Association has an outstanding opportunity for a SVP, Scientific Meetings and Program Development at our National Center in Dallas, TX.

 

The SVP, Scientific Meetings and Program Development is responsible for the strategic direction and management for all aspects of scientific meetings, conferences and program development.   Responsible for overall revenue generation, goals and expense management through sales of events and programs. Nurtures and solicits new  opportunities and developing strategies for a broader revenue base. Responsible for leading healthcare professional education programming, including planning and facilitating a comprehensive professional education curriculum and lifelong learning.  Responsible for engaging subject matter experts and volunteers to identify resources, provide relevant science and healthcare evidence, and develop program content and requirements. Provides management, direction and oversight to the Meetings Department and Professional Education department.  Leads in close collaboration with other key functions including membership, councils and coordinated marketing among other science and organizational functions.

Responsibilities

  • Strategizes and develops new opportunities for the dissemination of science and for additional revenue streams for Meetings and Professional Education, develops strategic attendance and marketing goals.
  • Strategizes with Corporate Relations, Consumer Markets, International Development and other internal Departments to develop new meetings by researching other conferences, improving existing projects, conducting focus groups, utilizing survey results, etc. Also plans for the future of obtaining sponsorship.
  • Discovers, develops and evaluates new product or program ideas, improvements to existing products/programs or strategic extensions, and translates research discoveries into usable and marketable products/programs.
  • Develops budgets, staffing requirements and ensures the programs or products meet stated objectives
  • Builds and maintains effective long-term relationships with a defined customer base to ensure a high level of satisfaction and increase revenues.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 10 years of strong experience in planning and producing large scale events, meetings, and conferences preferably in the non-profit/Association space.
  • 10 years experience in product or program development, product and market strategic planning, or product/program management
