The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
As the Supplier Quality Engineer you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Lead and Participate in Supplier Quality Assurance and Development related initiatives to maintain and improve Product Quality and Supplier Performance. Perform onsite and remote Supplier Audits that drive supplier performance improvement initiatives/actions.
  • Drive Supplier Development related initiatives by assisting them in problem-solving, root cause and corrective action related activities. Maintain and use a variety of continuous improvement tools to identify supplier quality problems and formulate action plans based on analysis of the data.
  • Participate as needed in daily production meetings to identify and investigate root causes of supplier-related production problems and ensure production continuity.
  • Lead the plant’s SCAR process for facilitating RCCA activities for supplier related non conformances and ensuring timely product returns and financial recovery.
  • Participate as needed in NPI Activities to provide support to supplier and material qualification related activities. Develop strategies to reduce the occurrence of rejected material.
  • Periodically provide comprehensive status reporting to senior management on supplier performance.
  • Communicate to and follow up with suppliers on issues such as design and specification changes, failed first article inspections, non-conformance dispositions, and corrective action plans. Review and process external requests for quality deviations.
  • Be involved in early Concept to Product phases and Design Reviews and in influencing and developing Supplier Agreements and requirements.  
  • Establish and cultivate an extensive network of resources (laboratory, manufacturing, engineering, sales and marketing) to facilitate completion of assignments. Lead teams and projects as required. Functions as an effective team leader and promote harmonious and efficient working relationships.
  • Lead Process and Quality Engineering Efforts, working with the engineering team members to identify and complete process and quality improvement projects, using Lean, DMAIC, and CAPA Methodologies.

Your Skills and Expertise 

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in a science, engineering or technical discipline (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
  • Five (5) years of combined experience working in a supplier quality, engineering, six sigma or another technical role in a private, public, government or military environment ​

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Master’s degree or higher in a science or engineering discipline.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the use of continuous improvement tools, such as FMEA, Root Cause Analysis, SPC analysis, PPAP, APQP and process mapping to develop new or underperforming suppliers.
  • Experience conducting effective supplier audits.
  • Ability to read technical drawings, knowledge of machined parts and components, PCBA’s, production operations and inspection techniques.
  • Must be familiar with GD&T, mechanical Inspection techniques and tools.
  • Understanding of ISO9001Quality Management Systems.
  • Knowledge of effective supplier evaluation techniques to identify failures using root cause analysis corrective action delivery and preventative measure implementation.
  • Effective communication techniques and ability to communicate with technical and non-technical personnel, including purchasing, production, engineering, finance, and quality staff members.
  • Certifications in quality engineering, quality auditing or quality management e.g., American Society for Quality-ASQ certification(s): Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), Certified Supplier Quality Professional (CSQP)
