Summary/Purpose
The Shipping Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the shipping department, ensuring the accuracy, efficiency, and timeliness of all outbound orders while maintaining zero customer complaints. This role is also accountable for driving continuous improvement initiatives, optimizing shipping processes, and ensuring strict adherence to work standards and safety protocols.
Essential Duties and Accountabilities:
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives (kaizen) across all distribution center processes, fostering a culture of value stream optimization and mistake-proofing.
• Develop and track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that measure and drive operational improvements.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement clear and effective work instructions.
• Ensure strict compliance with corporate safety policies and warehouse procedures, safeguarding the well-being of all employees.
• Coordinate daily operational activities to meet shipping schedules and achieve zero customer complaints.
• Partner with Warehouse Manager to align operations with customer expectations and ensure consistent service delivery.
• Advocate and support the implementation of Toyota Production System (TPS) principles, focusing on lean methodologies.
• Design, justify, and implement warehouse improvement projects to increase operational efficiency.
• Monitor KPI performance, analyze data, and develop action plans for areas requiring improvement.
• Effectively apply the 8-step problem-solving methodology and corrective actions to resolve issues and drive process improvement

Supervisory Responsibilities:
• Responsible for supervising a team of 10-15 employees within the Shipping department, providing guidance, support, and performance feedback.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• In-depth experience in distribution, warehousing, and logistics management.
• Strong project management skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and solve problems using structured methodologies (e.g., 8-step problem-solving).
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Deep understanding of warehousing, material handling, and logistics best practices.
• Familiarity with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), with Oracle experience preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to manage high-pressure situations.
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize tasks efficiently.
• Demonstrated ownership and accountability for team performance and operational results.

Education and Experience:
• 5+ years of experience in distribution/warehousing and logistics.
• An Associate’s degree in a relevant field is preferred.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

• Work is mostly performed in a shop floor/distribution center setting with normal exposure to health or safety hazards, and with substantial time spent working on a computer. During the course of investigations, moving of heavy product, use of scanners and use of fork lifts and other equipment will be required.
• The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to shop (warehouse/production) areas which may require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, steel toe shoes and protective gloves.
• Position will require moderate lifting of cartons between 20 and 40 lbs. Occasionally cartons weighing over 40 lbs
• Knowledge of and adherence to all safety guidelines and standards.
• Travel by automobile and plane required approximately 5% of time.
