Job Details

The Summer Treatment Program (STP) at Cleveland Clinic Children’s is now offering summer internship opportunities for undergraduate students and recent graduates in Psychology, Special Education, Pre-Medicine, Child Development, Social Work, and related fields. Interns will serve as paraprofessional counselors in the children’s Summer Treatment Program for children with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The program delivers individualized treatment targeting each child’s behavioral and learning needs and serves children ages 6–14.

During the Summer Treatment Program (STP), children and counselors are assigned to consistent groups of 10–12 children and 5–6 counselors for the duration of the program. Counselors implement behavior modification strategies during recreational activities such as basketball, soccer, and kickball, providing real-time behavioral feedback through a structured token economy. Children earn points for positive behaviors, which can be exchanged for prizes, home-based rewards, weekly “Fun Friday” privileges, and social recognitions such as “High Point Kid” and “Honor Roll” status. Counselors also lead sports skills, social skills, and problem-solving training while facilitating cooperative group tasks and peer friendship development.

Children additionally participate in daily Academic Learning Centers, where classroom-based behavior modification programs address learning-related challenges. During these periods, counselors plan activities, individualize behavioral goals and daily report cards, and meet with clinical staff for supervision. All staff are trained in nonviolent crisis intervention and implement time-out procedures when necessary to safely manage aggression, property destruction, or repeated noncompliance.

Interns are employed for 10 weeks from June 1st through August 7 th, 2026. Undergraduate counselor hours of employment are approximately 8:00 AM until 5:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
