Job Description

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

We are seeking a highly motivated students seeking experience in the semiconductor industry to join Western Digital’s Memory Technology organization next summer as a part of our summer internship program.

Interns in the Memory Technology organization can expect to gain valuable experience in the development, productization, and testing of cutting-edge flash memory technology.

Projects that past interns have worked on include:

  • Creation of an AI chatbot to enable more efficient development of flash memory devices
  • Working on silicon evaluation and signal analysis, RTL design and verification and transistor level circuit design and verification
  • Building custom digital blocks and developing automations scripts in verification environment, and working on custom analog circuit design and verification

In addition to their day-to-day work, interns will have the opportunity to learn more about the company and to network with their internship cohort through social events, volunteer projects, and our Executive Leadership speaker series. 

The summer internship program at Western Digital is a paid, full-time (40 hours/week), 12-week position. Placements for this internship within Memory Technology are primarily based in Milpitas, CA with possibility for placement in Folsom, CA. Relocation assistance will be provided for these roles. 

Qualifications

Required:

  • Current undergraduate student who has participated in the STARS Design-track program or other Semiconductor-focused coursework at Purdue University
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong technical skills in area of study
  • Interest in flash memory, semiconductor, components, or nonvolatile memory industry
  • Interest in electronics and/or analog and digital circuitry
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Knowledge of and/or exposure to AI/ML tools and concepts
  • Experience using programming languages: C/C++, Python, Perl 

For certain placements, candidates may be expected to have experience or coursework in the following:

  • RTL & Verification languages such as Verilog or System Verilog 
  • Analog circuit design tool (HSpice), analog circuit layout technique, and verification tool knowledge (Xcelium)
  • Digital Design circuit knowledge to build custom blocks such as Adder, multiplexer, and FIFO designs
