Job Description

We create environments for you to thrive. The growing diversity of data creates an exponential number of new possibilities – for the world, our company and you. You’ll be part of a team driving the innovations necessary to outpace new demands and challenges everywhere data lives, from sensors to mobile devices to the cloud. We’ve only started to scratch the surface of what data can do. You can help unlock its full potential.

The Western Digital Enterprise System Integration Group is seeking a student engineer to work in our System Integration Test (SIT) Lab located in Rochester, MN. The SIT Lab is a dynamic environment where test engineers work closely with drive development engineers and our customers’ engineers during the process of bringing a drive to market. The SIT Lab supports the full Western Digital hard disk and solid-state drive lines as well as Western Digital-branded products, software, and storage solutions.

Students work as part of a global engineering team responsible for the integration of Western Digital products, including hard disk drives, solid-state drives, and software, into our customers' environments, mentored and guided by experienced Western Digital engineers. Our group in particular debugs and validates electrical and logical protocol compatibility between our products and computer systems from our customers, creates customer-facing software tools to manage and debug Western Digital products, and provides internal software infrastructure for our laboratory. Students are responsible for assisting Western Digital engineers in executing measurements, documenting measurement results, isolating, and debugging product compatibility problems, and developing software. Co-op/internship assignments are of the same type as those of our regular engineers, offering students the greatest exposure to life as a regular Western Digital employee. Interest in extensive hands-on computer and laboratory equipment use is expected. This is an 6-month Co-op position.
