Position Overview

 

The SCS Strategic Initiatives Leader stewards and integrates chemical stream and supply chain economics into both functional and corporate growth initiatives.  Acting as either program lead or subject matter expert, the candidate drives measurable value by translating information into actionable insights, framing growth opportunities for investment alignment, identifying competitive threats, and managing program milestones as part of the extended corporate transformation network. 

 

The Strategic Initiatives Leader will operate in a quick-paced execution environment and utilize their industry background to navigate the fast/precise continuum.  As such, the ability to leverage global resources and influence without authority are critical functions of this role. 

Job Responsibilities

 

• Develop insightful sourcing, logistics, and supply chain evaluations to frame options, KPI’s, and appropriate strategies that drive value 
• Lead global business initiatives from project scoping through implementation, including critical path, milestone tracking, and stakeholder communications 
• Assemble and refine a repository of chemical stream insights including process economics and competitive footprints to support procurement strategies and growth initiatives 
• Leverage and engage corporate analytical, engineering, and technology resources to accelerate project deliverables and decisions, including quick Go/Kill decisions 
• Partner with the Procurement Team and Supply Chain Leaders to embed value-added insights and tools into standardized SCS processes 
• Develop strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders 

 

Required Skills 

• Ability to quickly synthesize and distill industry data and information into relevant economic drivers and leverage points 
• Program leadership and skilled at escalating and resolving barriers or milestone gaps to keep on-target 
• Working knowledge of cost estimation, expected value, capacity utilizations, and optimization techniques 
• Organic chemistry knowledge  
• Proficient at navigating the fast/precise continuum and using engineering rules-of-thumb to build cost and decision models 
• Strong collaboration skills and the ability to build relationships and influence others, at all levels 
• Meets deadlines and works under pressure, with limited supervision 
• Maintains confidentiality as required 
• Travel up to 25%

Minimum Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications 

• 8-10 years relevant combined chemical/industrial economic evaluations and/or advanced education  
• Demonstrated success leading cross-functional programs in a matrixed environment 
• Experience developing economic models integrating sourcing, supply chain, trade flow data, and process economics  
• Strong ability to frame risk/opportunities with progressive levels of detail 
• Proficiency in working in a fast-paced, complex, dynamic, multicultural business environment 
• Ability to travel as needed  

 

Education Requirements 

• MS/PhD in relevant engineering discipline.  Chemical Engineering preferred 
• MBA or internal/external consulting a plus
