Job Summary:
The Store Director plans, and directs the day-to-day operations of the store, increasing customer count, sales and profitability, and improving customer services while maintaining a safe environment for customers and employees. Manages 6 to 15 subordinate supervisors who supervise up to a total of 125 employees in the Produce Department, Bakery Department, Meat Department and Grocery Department and is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units.
Essential Functions of the Position:
• Hires, trains, coaches, schedules, and disciplines employees in all areas of the store. Makes staffing and pay decisions based on store needs. Works with department managers to increase performance standards are maintained with all employees. Plans and prepares work schedules and assigns employees to specific duties. Handles discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with company policy.
• Ensures all products and displays are merchandised effectively to maximize sales and profitability; sets up displays and stocks shelves/displays as needed. Places and rotates merchandise to ensure products sold according to code dates.
• Performs scheduled inspections, focusing on both internal and external areas of the facility to ensure compliance with the company and store policies and procedures, in addition to federal, state and local rules and regulations required. Maintains store appearance and product presentation to company standards.
• Orders merchandise or prepares requisitions to replenish merchandise on hand; prepares list of damaged items and communicates to the appropriate personnel of defective or unusable items to ensure appropriate credits or replacements are received.
• Counts and/or verifies all material, equipment, merchandise, and supplies brought into the location with Bill of Lading; verifies clerical counts against physical count of stock and adjusts errors in computation or count or investigates and reports reasons for discrepancies. Maintains a high degree of accuracy to ensure correct inventory numbers.
• Ensures compliance of employees with established security and record keeping procedures and practices, trains employees in proper safety and security procedures and practices.
• Conducts market research by visiting competitors in an assigned area, looking at customer counts, pricing, product available, product placements, etc.
• Identifies and assists Loss Prevention in the safeguarding of company assets from losses due to theft or fraud. Assists in apprehensions, retrieving company property and identifying ways to reduce risk and losses.
• Ensures customer needs are met, resolves customer complaints in a timely manner and ensures that service is quick and efficient. Minimizes customer complaint escalation by administering diplomatic communication skills.
• Performs various duties of other job titles throughout the store to provides support during peak periods or when scheduling conflicts arise.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge:
• Comprehensive understanding of grocery retail operations, including merchandising, inventory management, and sales forecasting.
• Familiarity with applicable laws and regulations regarding grocery store operations.
• Knowledge of POS systems and inventory management software.
• Understanding of customer service best practices and strategies to enhance customer engagement.
