As a Staff Engineer you will support active contracts on a collaborative research team. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to pursue their passions with the freedom to expand their work to their areas of interest and expertise, while serving our customers and end users.

 

Primary Role and Responsibilities

  • Discover, define, develop, and deploy novel audio and electrical technologies that can be used to enhance communications and hearing protection systems.
  • Develop novel sensing solutions.
  • Act as a technical resource for other engineers and scientists within the company.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related, preferably related to acoustics.
  • 5+ years’ relevant work experience.

Position Requirements

  • US Citizen
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Security Clearance
  • On-site work at ARA’s Littleton, Colorado facility
  • Periodic travel to other ARA offices, subcontractor sites, and customer locations
  • Demonstrated ability to work well within a team and independently.
  • Significant experience in at least two of the following fields: acoustical engineering, amplifier design, embedded programming, PCB design/fabrication

    Desired Qualifications

    • Master’s degree in engineering or related
    • Understanding of the field of acoustics and/or human perception of sound.
    • Defining audio and electric system requirements
    • Evaluating and troubleshooting hardware in the lab.
    • Integrating acoustic transducers into existing technology.
    • Creating and tuning audio algorithms (AGC/limiters/compressors, stereo)
    • Developing test methods to evaluate new technologies.
    • Developing tools for evaluating audio performance
    • Experience working with microelectronics to include selection of components, development of breadboard systems, and programming embedded or PC-connected control systems.
    • Experience performing prototyping through low-rate initial production (LRIP).
    • Experience working in Altium to create production-ready PCB designs.
    • Experience performing contract/grant-based research and development relevant to National Defense applications.
    • Motivation to succeed in a cross-functional team spanning multiple disciplines to deliver results in a timely manner.
    • A strong record of written and verbal communication through reports, peer-reviewed publications, and/or conference presentations.
