About the role

Your work will change lives. Including your own.

Recursion is a clinical-stage biotechnology company decoding biology by integrating technological innovations across biology, chemistry, automation, data science, and engineering to radically improve the lives of patients and industrialize drug discovery. Our team is working to solve some of the hardest, most meaningful problems facing human health today. Come join us in our mission to decode biology to radically improve lives, while doing the most impactful work of your life!

The Impact You’ll Make

In this role, you will be at the forefront of reimagining neuroscience drug discovery using our massive data capabilities. You'll work in a cross-functional team of world-class experimentalists, computational biologists, data scientists, ML scientists, and engineers to interrogate and advance our maps of neurobiology – to work with internal and external partners to more deeply understand them and to iterate and improve our capability to generate insights from these maps with the ultimate goal of bringing life-changing therapeutics to patients living with neurological or neurodegenerative disease.

Objectives

  • Partner with experimentalists to accelerate Recursion’s neuroscience drug discovery efforts through your skills in experimental design and your ability to analyze, integrate, and interpret large biological datasets.
  • Present and discuss data and tools with decision makers and stakeholders in a clear and compelling way that drives toward getting medicines to patients.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Recursion’s platform data science and ML teams to further advance Recursion’s ability to interpret and translate large-scale phenomics data into therapeutic programs.
  • Mentor more junior data scientists and computational biologists. As a staff or principle data scientist, we expect you to lean in on reviewing analyses and providing technical leadership for the quantitative scientists who also work in our neuroscience map building and drug discovery programs.

Key Capabilities

  • Use existing Recursion infrastructure, implement established methods, and propose innovative solutions to integrate and interpret high dimensional data types including phenomics, immunofluorescence, genomics, transcriptomics, single cell sequencing, and/or proteomics using appropriate computational and statistical methods.
  • Create visualizations, interpret high dimensional data, and explain results to cross-functional teams.
  • Work collaboratively with data scientists to move high-impact tools into our computational infrastructure and shared visualization capabilities.
  • Tech lead and upskill teammates in computational biology and data science.
  • Present data effectively to participants across levels and functional groups in the organization.
  • Iterate quickly to move from ideation to validation on multiple projects at an accelerated pace.

The Team You’ll Join

We are building diverse and collaborative drug discovery teams that are data-driven from the ground up. Close collaboration between computational biologists across therapeutic areas and with data scientists on the core build teams provides a strong network of feedback and support in setting timelines, refining ideas, automating repetitive workflows, piloting, productionalizing and more. Our group is a bold, agile, interdisciplinary collective of biological, computational, drug discovery, and machine learning scientists deeply focused on the singular goal of bringing new therapeutics to patients at an accelerated pace. You will collaborate extensively with data scientists, machine learning scientists, engineers, and biologists throughout the organization to advance milestones and provide insights to advance Recursion’s capabilities. Essential attributes to this role include a bold, execution-first attitude and passion for deploying rigorous science to bring life-changing therapies to patients.

The Experience You’ll Need

  • PhD in a relevant field (bioinformatics, statistics, neuroscience, cell biology, etc.) and 5+ years of experience or MS in a relevant field and 8+ years of experience.
  • Demonstrated experience mining and integrating large multimodal data sets (including proteomics, transcriptomics, GWAS, genomics, etc.) to identify targets and/or pathways relevant to drug discovery.
  • Strong data visualization skills
  • Fluency and experience working with high-level programming language such as Python or R for complex data analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience with and passion for technical leadership and mentorship.
  • Understanding of current state of therapeutic deve
