As an experienced engineer you'll play a critical role in reshaping our core data platform in a modern cloud-based architecture, all while working in a highly collaborative agile engineering environment.

The staff data engineer works independently with minimal guidance and direction to solve for and influence enterprise and system architecture based on best data modeling practices. With a strong partnership and alignment with key stakeholder; you have the ability to lead and influence technical and business counterparts, including infosec and compliance.

You will use in-depth knowledge in domain data architecture and agile software development  to perform complex technical planning, architecture design, iterative feature development, production scaling, monitoring and redundancy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • You'll be responsible for the architecture and implementation for the data API abstracting the database layer across applications.
  • You will establish technology standards and roadmaps while still having the opportunity to get into the code via the development of API, frameworks, and data pipelines that will be leveraged to accelerate our data platform engineering team's delivery.
  • You will work closely / hands-on with our data engineering team to realize our data objectives.
  • Partner with business teams to design, develop and execute on our data strategy helping establish a clear & consistent technology vision with best practices to de-risk solution delivery.
  • Identify and assess the organizational impact of data layer architecture, governance and standards.
  • Mentor, inspire and lead individual contributors.
  • Be a major stakeholder in the architecture and implementation for a Data Platform.
  • Coordinate with Data Science to identify current and future data requirements.
  • Drive migration of existing data and data processing systems to the next generation platform.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • 8+ years of software development experience
  • Deep understanding about database internals, database language theories, database design, SQL and database programming.
  • 4+ years of experience with relevant scripting languages or programming frameworks.
  • 4+ years of supporting a large data platform and data pipelines.
  • Deep understanding of object-oriented programming and experience with at least one object-oriented programming language (ie Java, Go, Python)
  • Experience architecting and developing solutions to ambiguous problems with significant impact.
  • Technical leadership experience leading project teams and setting technical direction.
  • Expertise in micro service architecture, logging, monitoring and disaster recovery planning methodologies.
  • Expertise in database security, troubleshooting/performance tuning, upgrades, data and server migrations.
  • Bachelors in Computer Science or other quantitative fields or relevant experience.
  • Experience with public cloud services (AWS or Google Cloud Platform or Azure)
  • Experience with graph QL
