Staff Accountant

St. Croix Health is looking for a full-time (1.0 FTE) Staff Accountant to join our team!

The Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining financial reports, managing company service contracts, audit and budget support, non-patient accounts receivable and maintains the fixed asset system for the organization. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Monthly close duties, required analysis, and annual duties

• Prepare monthly journal entries ensuring accuracy and reasonableness in estimates
• Gather and analyze information from other departments
• Create reports and disseminate to appropriate parties
• Reconcile balance sheet accounts
• Assist with and prepares audit, budget and cost report
• Answer accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data
• Complies with all federal, state and accrediting regulatory standards

2. Service Contract duties

• Process standard purchase requests
• Maintain master spreadsheet of all organization contracts
• Manage contract renewals

3. Fixed Asset duties

• Reconcile monthly fixed asset and Construction In Progress (CIP) balance sheet account
• Prepare monthly journal entries for reclassifications and capitalization
• Understand capitalization versus expense theory
• Prepare year-end CIP and fixed asset reconciliations by asset life and category
• Update Asset Edge with annual additions/deletions and reconcile to the general ledger
• Perform audit of fixed assets annually

4. Non-Patient Accounts Receivable duties

• Prepare invoices and posts payments on account
• Reconcile non-patient A/R accounts to general ledger

Requirements

Education & Licensure: 

• Associate’s degree in Accounting or related field required; or 
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field preferred

Experience: 

• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in Accounting or related field preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 

• Highly skilled in financial and numeric data
• Demonstrated knowledge in intermediate accounting principles (GAAP)
• Strong ethical grounding
• Strong analytical skills
• Proficient computer skills in accounting systems
• Intermediate level skills in Excell (formulas and pivot tables)
• Excellent critical thinking, reasoning and analytical skills
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
• Prolonged periods of standing, bending, and reaching
• Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at times
