The Position

NBCUniversal Advertising Platforms & Operations is responsible for the product development, project management, and day-to-day operations of NBCUniversal’s full advertising technology suite. From product management to program management, from sales enablement to sales operations, from product marketing to strategic communications, our division services both internal and external customers in support of NBCUniversal’s $10B+ annual advertising business. Together, we’re building the platform that powers the future of advertising at NBCU.

The Product Marketing & Content Strategy team within Advertising Platforms & Operations is responsible for communicating the value proposition of our technology suite to our customers, prospects, and across the greater NBCUniversal organization. We are currently seeking a Senior Technical Writer to join our team of product marketers, designers, and writers.

This is a highly technical and creative role that requires developing a deep understanding of NBCU’s advertising technology products and distilling that understanding into a variety of deliverables—from detailed product documentation to easy-to-digest FAQs to training videos  and more. The person in this position will play a critical role in driving understanding and adoption of NBCU ad tech solutions among NBCU’s advertising clients, third-party partners, and internal stakeholders across the organization. There is also the opportunity to stretch into broader product marketing copy writing, including messaging/positioning for new products and script writing for tech-focused NBCU speaking engagements.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director, Technical Communications, the person in this role will:

  • Provide documentation in a variety of formats to accompany NBCU’s advertising technology products (examples: release notes, user help, integration guides, one-sheets, FAQs, training guides and videos, and newsletters)
  • Partner closely with relevant product and strategy teams to document and build training materials for new products and features as they’re released
  • Work to team technical communication standards and style guidelines  
  • Contribute to the usability, consistency, and effectiveness of internal and external user interfaces by reviewing/providing language for instructional messages, UI labels, and other microcopy
  • Support the Product Marketing & Content Strategy team on commercialization/go-to-market efforts, from operational process documentation to marketplace messaging
  • Support other members of the Product Marketing & Content Strategy team as peer reviewer and idea bouncer-offer

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • 5-7 years of full-time technical writing experience, preferably with an advertising, media technology, or SaaS company
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills
  • Proven experience with a variety of help authoring, information design, and content management tools (e.g., Confluence, SharePoint, enterprise wikis)
  • Outstanding portfolio that demonstrates high-quality writing across a range of document types, excellent grammar skills and attention to detail, and strong technical skills with the ability to articulate technical concepts using easily understood terms
  • Experience working and collaborating with business owners, product owners, and other subject matter experts at all levels within an organization, from support to senior management
  • Highly organized and a self-starter, able to prioritize tasks and work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Genuine enthusiasm for and commitment to providing high-quality user assistance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in English, Journalism, Technical Writing, or related field highly desirable
  • Experience building wikis or documentation websites
  • Experience writing developer documentation
  • Familiarity with inclusive, user-centered design
  • Good working knowledge of media buying, media technology, and “traditional” vs. “advanced” advertising
  • Experience working with data scientists, data analysts, and data engineers
  • Love of, or at least acceptance of, the Oxford Comma

 

Salary Range: $90,000- $110,000
