Job Description

The Sr. Scala Backend Engineer will report directly to the Director of Product Development and is responsible for developing world-class business applications to support the NBC Ad Sales organization. This role will work closely with product owners and other technology team members to plan, design, develop, deploy, maintain, and support a portfolio of custom-developed applications.

Responsibilities

  • Active engagement in a cross-functional team to develop and maintain a portfolio of custom products/applications to support NBCU Ad Sales business
  • Foster and maintain a culture of professional software engineering best practices including design & architecture standards, quality of deliverables, and code review practices
  • Manages audits on code and documentation from developers
  • Collaborate with Architects and Product/Project Managers to contribute to detailed project estimations, project statuses, and risk mitigation for technical deliverables
  • Collaborate with a team of fellow engineers to design and develop features from inception to completion
  • Participate in scrum ceremonies
  • Perform peer code reviews
  • Write high-quality code to meet customer requirements and create meaningful unit tests with a test-driven mindset
  • Aligns with the team by following common standards for development tools/platforms/methodology/controls to ensure efficiency, quality, and consistency in application development
  • Participating in technical discussions for evaluating new technologies/platforms/solutions to solve for complex technical/business requirements; influence overall architecture and technology decisions with the goal of simplifying/reducing technology sprawl

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with Scala and Play framework
  • Familiarity with RDMS and NoSQL databases: MongoDB, Cassandra, Teradata, Oracle, MySQL
  • Good understanding of Object-Oriented programming methodology, Micro-services architecture, API, and related patterns
  • Knowledge of authentication frameworks and security
  • Experience with Automation testing
  • Experience with Continuous Integration/Deployment (DevOps)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with using AWS (Lambda/Step functions, EMR, ECS, ECS/EKS)
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience working in Agile environments
  • Experience with Git/GitHub/GitLab
  • Experience with Application Performance Tuning
  • Experience integrating with third-party applications and data sources

Note: 

  • This position will require work overtime and on weekends during key business cycles
  • Fully Remote: This position has been designated as fully remote, meaning that the position is expected to contribute from a non-NBCUniversal worksite, most commonly an employee’s residence.

Salary range: $110,000 - $155,000.
