The Team

The Strategy group reports to founder Rich Fairbank, Chairman and CEO of Capital One, and engages in a discrete number of high-impact projects that drive the performance and direction of the company. The team focuses primarily on formulating enduring, profitable, and customer-centered  growth and value-enhancement strategies and then working with our business and staff teams to ensure their maximum impact.

The Role

As a member of the Strategy Business Risk Office (BRO), you will have a unique opportunity on this small team to work across various risk programs such as third party risk, division risk, compliance, business continuity, and knowledge management. This role will also be required to develop expertise and lead key initiatives in data management and privacy.  Reporting to the Director of the BRO, you will interact with stakeholders throughout the company and with external partners to ensure that Strategy is proactive and well-managed across these areas. A successful candidate will not only master the details of these complex topics, but will be able to communicate their nuance and impact effectively and diplomatically.

Risk Management associates at Capital One are highly motivated risk professionals with excellent organizational and communication skills. They have strong judgment and the ability to create and implement innovative solutions to identify and mitigate potential risks to Capital One. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Serve as an interdepartmental liaison, interfacing with lines of business and staff functions such as HR and other areas of Risk 

  • Gather data and reporting; perform initial analysis or potentially evaluate data provided by team analysts 

  • Create risk reporting for relevant stakeholders and senior leadership

  • Design and implement internal governance processes 

  • Test controls and track issues 

  • Respond to internal and external audit and assessment requests

  • Manage, implement and deliver on a subset of the program deliverables  

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's Degree or military experience 

  • At least 2 years of  Risk Management experience 

  • At least 1 years of Project Management experience 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • 3 years of Risk Management experience  

  • 3 year of Financial Services experience

  • 5 years of Project Management experience

  • 1 years of experience supporting, partnering and interacting with internal business clients 

  • PMP Certification or Masters Certificate of Project Management (CPM)

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $94,600 - $107,900 for Sr. Risk Associate

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
