About the role

We are seeking a Sr. Research Assistant to work with members and collaborators in the Bennett Lab (PI: Dr. Wendy Bennett). The Sr. Research Assistant will perform data management and statistical analyses to accomplish aims for a pragmatic clinical trial testing health coaching in pregnancy. Analyses will include cost/finance data, Electronic Health Record data and survey data. They will also participate in the study’s data-related meetings.


The Sr. Research Assistant will have experience performing and documenting analyses, preferably using Stata and R software. Most of the work will be with the NIDDK funded study (called “R18”) but we also anticipate work on the NIMHD funded study (called “P50”) include cleaning and summarizing weight data.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the study PI, Co-I’s and Study Staff to develop and document analysis plans, make key decisions and provide rationale for these decisions.
  • Manage, clean and prepare datasets for analysis, including creation of codebooks/data dictionaries and variable calculations.
  • Execute statistical analyses, preferably using Stata and R software.
  • Document and maintain records (codebooks, logs, manuals) for all statistical analyses to be able to easily modify or update code and have reproducibility.
  • Make suggestions or provide solutions to problems related to data management and statistical analysis.
  • Interpret analyses and draft statistical sections of study reports, scientific abstracts and manuscripts.
  • Participate in and coordinate weekly data management meetings.
  • Periodically present at other study-related meetings like Trial Oversight meeting.
  • Produce tables and graphs in publication-quality form, and present results to research team at meetings.
  • Provide assistance to trainees and students who want to work with our team on analyses.
  • Collaborate with and provide analysis support to investigators, faculty, and students related to Bennett Lab projects; serve as point person for the Bennett Lab for data analyses and data related activities.
  • Carry out other related duties as assigned.

  • Candidate is responsible for carrying out duties and responsibilities under the supervision of the Research Associate (primary supervisor) and PI (co-supervision).


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel and basic statistical software like STATA and R.
  • Understanding of basic statistics and qualitative data collection (interviews) and analysis.
  • Knowledge of clinical research practices and principles.
  • Ability to work well as a member of a team.
  • Must work well independently, be able to set goals and meet required deadlines.
  • Independent decision-making/troubleshooting abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent organization skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple and competing priorities.
  • Interest in pregnant women and maternal health.
  • Understanding of clinical care and workflows.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline. 
  • Two years of related experience
  • Additional graduate level education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications

  • MPH or MS in relevant field preferred.
  • Previous research study experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience in maternal and child health strongly preferred.

Starting Salary Range: $40,900 - $71,600 Annually ($50,000 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
