Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Sr Principal Software Engineer  – X-Lab Lead SW Developer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be at Schriever Space Force Base, in Colorado Springs, CO.

Position Overview:

The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program, a key component of the missile defense system, integrates the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, to see the battle develop collectively, and to dynamically manage designated networked sensors and weapons systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives. C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability that enables an optimized response to threats of all ranges in all phases of flight.

C2BMC is the force multiplier that globally and regionally networks integrate, synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations to optimize performance. C2BMC is integral to all system ground and flight tests, which verify and exercise all current and future missile defense system capabilities.

The position is split between two roles. The first is for a lead X-Lab Enterprise Services software development team member to develop and test innovative solutions supporting X-Lab projects and experiments. The second is for a Software Engineer on the C2BMC program, supporting software development on C2BMC Global. The candidate will be responsible for leading software development in Java.

The X-Lab, a crucial component of the missile defense system, is a very fast-paced and dynamic environment. It is responsible for developing Mission Data Services (MDS) software, sensor integration, data reliability, sensor and data addition, Sensor/Weapon Integration, User Interface Development into the MDS application, and other critical leading-edge missile defense technologies. The X-Lab needs a Lead Software Engineer to assist in full-cycle software development, including requirements, design, implementation, integration, and testing.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform in-depth analysis and technical support of systems software products, including complex problem resolution, design, development, testing, operational integration, and user support
  • Maintains currency, debugs, and configures related software products
  • Responsible for developing CI/CD pipeline, Dynamic and Static analysis of the Mission Data Services and associated tools
  • Works from specifications to develop or modify operating systems applications
  • Assists with design, coding, benchmark testing, debugging, and documentation of programs
  • Interfaces with other system support groups to resolve problems, set standards, and improve the overall efficiency of the operating system
  • Designs, codes, tests, and implements tools for operations automation
  • Works on most phases of software systems programming applications and may require instruction and guidance
  • Primary work location is the Missile Defense Integration and Operations Center (MDIOC) at Schriever SFB, CO. Work at COS Hwy 83 may be required
  • Occasional off-hours work to support test events may be required

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Science, Technology, Software Engineering, Engineering, Mathematics, or related discipline preferred from an accredited university and 8 years of related work experience or a Master’s degree in a related discipline and 6 years of relate
