Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Launch and Missile Defense Systems offers an exciting career opportunity for a Sr. Principal Engineer Systems – Systems Engineer-Interface Engineer (25-277) to join our team of qualified and diverse individuals. This position, based in Colorado Springs, CO, or Huntsville, AL, plays a critical role in supporting the U.S. President, Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels.

Relocation Assistance is not available for this position, and this role is on-site with no remote options.

Position Overview:

The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program acts as the central element of the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, monitor the progress of the battle, and dynamically manage networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives. C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability that provides an optimized response to threats of all ranges at every phase of flight. It functions as a force multiplier, networked, integrated, and synchronized on a global and regional scale, autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations to improve performance. Furthermore, C2BMC is a vital component of all system ground and flight tests, which validate and demonstrate the current and future capabilities of the missile defense system.

This position will be assigned to the C2BMC Systems Engineering Team within SEIT. The Interface Engineer is a Systems Engineer and will occasionally support non-interface systems engineering activities. The Engineer will lead the development of ICDs and IDDs, including establishing new interfaces between external elements, such as sensors, and other Command and Control Systems. They will ensure that the ICDs and IDDs comply with the applicable standards required by the program. Additionally, the Engineer is expected to develop behavioral diagrams to understand and document requirements and create detailed requirements in DOORS to provide clear guidance to the implementation teams.

Essential Functions:

  • The Interface Engineer's primary responsibility will be to develop and update several Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and Interface Design Documents (IDDs)
  • The successful candidate will attend interface working group meetings with the MDA customer and representatives from the assigned external element engineering organization, as well as support program integration and test efforts related to the interface
  • A successful candidate may also be assigned to assist other interface engineers with developing ICDs for additional BMDS Elements, as well as support requirements engineering, use case development, and logical architecture modeling tasks as needed by the SE department
  • A successful candidate will support spiral leadership to ensure that interface artifacts and system assessment tasks required for the assigned sensor interface are completed as needed
  • The successful candidate will possess over 9 years of professional experience in Systems Engineering or a related field
  • Must have extensive experience in authoring ICDs and IDDs that are DID-compliant and meet DoD standards
  • Must be able to work effectively as part of an experienced team in developing systems engineering products and artifacts while following the program's Systems Engineering Management Plan (SEMP) and other processes

Salary range in Huntsville: $131,100 - $196,700

Salary range in Colorado Springs: $124,900 - $187,300
