Sr. Mass Properties Engineer
SupernalAbout the role
Supernal is at the forefront of creating emerging mobility solutions that will foster the development of human-centered cities. We are designing a completely new electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft tailored to the mobility needs of future cities. This allows passengers a seamless intermodal journey that safely transports them to their final destination. We fuse research in autonomy, robotics, aviation and services to define a new category of mobility for the world’s communities. We believe in creative thinking and collaboration to help build a better mobility experience for everyone, improving people’s ability to move – whether for work or play.
What we do:
The Sr. Mass Properties Engineer is responsible for building our Mass Properties analysis capabilities from the ground up and assists in developing and tracking aircraft mass properties to aid with loads development, structural analysis development, aircraft performance trade studies, cost, and more. This position requires a professional with expertise in Mass Properties analysis and control during different phases of design/development to certification.
What you can do:
- Lead and participate in system-level trades to ensure the vehicle design meets all physical, mechanical, and environmental requirements while accommodating the required payload, power, propulsion, thermal, communications, and attitude control system requirements
- Conduct advanced design weight estimation to develop preliminary weight estimates to support advanced design proposals, prototyping efforts, and trade studies
- Perform estimation, calculation, and measurement/verification of mass, center of gravity, and inertias of components, assemblies, and completed vehicles or systems
- Develop the analysis methods and tools for mass properties estimation
- Estimate, calculate, and verify mass properties of components and assemblies in support of trade studies and drawing release
- Work with the broader engineering team to conduct multi-disciplinary trade studies to guide through design decisions
- Generate and maintain mass properties reports to key collaborators of various multi-functional teams
- Develop, support, and implement test plans to verify mass properties (weight, center of gravity, inertia)
- Track, maintain, and own mass properties inside a mass properties database
- Other duties as assigned
What you can contribute:
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, material science/engineering, physics, chemistry, or related engineering fields required
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a mass properties engineer in an aerospace organization (an equivalent combination of education experience may be considered)
