Position Specific Description
NextEra Energy Inc. and Florida Power and Light are seeking a Senior Fuels Analyst to join our Energy Trading Accounting team at the corporate headquarters in Juno Beach, Fl. In this role you will report to the Accounting Manager within the Fuels Accounting team which focuses mainly on FPL related activities.
This position is responsible for:
• Research, analysis and reporting on activities related to fossil fuel accounting.
• Coordination, maintenance and reporting functions of the Levelized Fuel Adjustment Reporting System (LFARS).
• Performing various systems reconciliations as it relates to fossil fuel inventory.
• Maintain SOX documentation and perform key control activities related to fossil fuel accounting.
• Prepares various reports at the request of internal and/or external auditors.
• Prepare plan vs. actual fuel cost variance analysis.
• Responsible for accuracy associated with FERC for fossil fuel expense.
• Calculate monthly natural gas unit cost and expense.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or undergraduate degree in related discipline
• Energy commodities experience
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
• Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Strong organization skills
• Ability to effectively communicate with business unit personnel to resolve outstanding fuel related issues
• Ability to guide junior level staff when needed
Job Overview
This position is responsible for processing settlements and invoicing across multiple NextEra Energy organizations. Employees in this role manage the most complex settlements and work with a large number of business units to streamline and improve processes affecting the revenue cycle.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Acts as a subject matter expert on contract terms, revenue metering, and invoicing for most complex settlements
- Analyzes a large volume of data affecting settlement calculations to identify issues prior to invoicing
- Creates business requirements for the automation of settlement calculations
- Conducts variance reporting and analysis, and regulatory reporting
- Assists with managing internal and external audit requests
- Prepares monthly estimate to actual variance analysis and explanations
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned
