Job Description:

Duties/Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, direct and supervise assigned activities of the Engineering Department functions which are necessary in maintaining the physical structures, HVAC, mechanical, electrical systems, utilities and grounds of the hospital in an operative and safe working condition
• Planning and maintaining an effective organization, administering labor and material controls, training of maintenance personnel on safety and effective management practices
• Reports daily as to the physical and structural conditions of hospital facilities and the status of work in process
• Monitors departmental personnel matters and makes recommendations, such as selections, training, promotion, discipline and termination
• Supervises scheduling of department personnel
• Directs as needed the grievances of employees to the Director of Engineering for final disposition
• Participates in the development and applications of standards of quality and productivity for the Engineering Department
• Works with Shift Supervisors to direct Engineering Department personnel in the use of policies, procedures and standards to work performance for maintenance and repair of equipment, buildings and building systems
• Administers and supervises the preventative maintenance program to ensure the uninterrupted operation of the entire physical plant
• Works closely with other departments and administration
• Negotiates priorities, plan work schedules, makes job assignments, orders needed materials, supplies and parts
• Schedules and supervises maintenance repair work, alterations, remodeling, minor construction, checkout installation and servicing of mechanical and electrical equipment and building systems
• Develops and participates in the orientation of new employees and the continuing education of department employees in the repair and maintenance of all equipment
• Works closely with inventory coordinator to maintain stock levels of materials and parts within budgetary constraints
• Responsible for maintaining repair and replacement records to keep within the projected budget. Provides input to Director of Engineering of projected costs and budget requirements
