EmployeeJob Description:
Do you want to be an “Intelli?” We do business differently to forge new paths in specialty coffee. We are pioneers in the direct trade model for buying coffee and creating coffee partnerships all over the world. We’re passionate about coffee, and that means we pay a bit more for coffee in order to buy direct and create long-term, collaborative relationships with our producers that grow exceptional coffee.
As a key member of the leadership team, the Senior Director of eCommerce will report directly to the CEO and play a strategic role in the overall management of the company. This leader is the general manager of Intelligentsia’s rapidly growing direct-to-consumer business — accountable for its P&L, performance, and long-term growth. This leader owns all aspects of our eCommerce operations across intelligentsia.com and kilogramtea.com, blending strategic oversight with hands-on execution.
From optimizing digital campaigns to refining the customer journey, this role is responsible for reaching new customers, driving conversion, increasing lifetime value, and building a premium brand experience online.
This position leads a broad portfolio: overseeing performance marketing and SEO, managing agency partners (paid, affiliate, and digital), owning the email and SMS channels, and guiding site operations and customer support. In close partnership with our brand and creative teams, the Sr. Director of eCommerce ensures we’re delivering on both brand integrity and revenue targets.
We're looking for a growth-minded operator — someone who thrives in a dynamic environment, makes decisions grounded in data, experiments boldly, scales what works, and learns fast from what doesn’t.
Must be located in one of the following cities: Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, Boston, or Austin.
Duties & Responsibilities:

Develop and execute the long-term strategy, annual business plan, and budget for the eCommerce channel
Own full P&L responsibility for intelligentsia.com and kilogramtea.com, with a focus on profitable, sustainable growth

Collaborate with internal and external teams on ongoing site improvements, including design, navigation, and functionality
Explore and define roadmap for future platforms (e.g. mobile app development) that support a premium digital brand experience
Own subscription lifecycle performance, including acquisition, retention, pause/skip logic, churn analytics, and product experience improvements

Build a culture of insight-driven decision making by improving digital analytics tools, dashboards, and reporting practices
Monitor traffic, conversion, subscription, and engagement metrics to inform strategic initiatives
Translate data into clear insights and share key trends with the broader leadership team

Partner closely with Brand and Design to develop creative assets (including video and motion) that support acquisition and storytelling
Align with CX teams to ensure a seamless end-to-end experience for eCommerce customers
Collaborate with internal stakeholders across supply chain, finance, and product to deliver on eCommerce growth goals
Build and lead a high-performing eCommerce team; identify capability gaps, recruit top talent, and foster a culture of ownership, agility, and experimentation
