General Summary:
The Senior Director, Pediatrics Operations serves as key leader and advisor as part of the Department Leadership Team, supports and manages Division Administrator team members, and serves as the primary point of contact for day-to-day operational management impacting the divisional processes. The Senior Director, Pediatrics Operations will advise the Executive Director in setting strategic priorities as they relate to operations, will partner on development and implementation of initiatives to improve operations and will partner in the oversight of the budget and financial analytics of the Department. The Senior Director is responsible for development and oversight of the department’s budget, business operations and analytics, and plays a critical role in driving strategic, operational, and financial improvement throughout the department.
Essential Job Functions:
Supports the Executive Director in the management of divisional operations and execution of the department’s strategic plan as it relates to division budget planning, fiscal and resource planning/administration, human resource utilization, policy development and administration, and annual operating plan goals.
Leads or provides support for managing complex, multi-disciplinary projects within the Department
In partnership with the LCMG Business Operations team, supports the department and divisional leadership teams in the development and analysis of the annual operating budget; supports departmental efforts in monitoring progress against budget. Partners with the Executive Director to lead annual operating budget initiatives related to revenue growth and expense management goals. Establishes a system for proactive monitoring of monthly financials, productivity review and access management at the department and division-level, recommending action where appropriate.
Partners with the department and divisional leadership teams and the foundation finance team to plan spending of endowments and philanthropic funds, ensuring appropriate stewardship and strategic deployment of resources.
Serves as liaison to Division Administrators and Division Heads in operational, financial and budgetary management for their respective programs.
Partners with other Departmental leadership to ensure the effective management of faculty effort allocation, clinical activity tracking, and productivity reporting and management.
Supports the divisional faculty recruitment process by reviewing the financial components of business plans and offer letters to ensure they meet departmental standards and expectations. Administers commitments and monitors and measures performance against plan.
Serves as a liaison with faculty and faculty leadership in the Department of Pediatrics.
Establishes and maintains working relationships with institutional peers, serves as departmental liaison, helps ensure that the department is responsive to institutional requests and completes projects in a timely fashion.
Manages the day-to-day activities of direct reports through various human resources activities including: staffing, scheduling, recruitment/selection, orientation and training, employee development, and performance evaluation and management. Ensures staff performance exemplifies the Lurie Children’s core values.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Master’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Public Health or related field required.
Minimum of 7 years of progressive responsibility in healthcare operations management, preferably at an academic medical center. Healthcare experience, specifically in physician practice finance or management or in a clinical department at an academic medical center preferred.
Demonstrated understanding of the operations of an academic department and ability to provide initiative and leadership to enhance operations and resolve problems.
