General Summary:The Sr. Data Center Operations Engineer applies advanced professional-level technical skill and judgment to provide non-routine, complex technical support for computer/data center operations. This role is responsible for leading implementation of equipment deployment into Syniverse managed datacenters to include equipment placement, power and network cabling. This role maintains access control, data integrity and file system security for the computer/data center environment. Some of What You'll Do
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Data Center Operations Engineer to lead initiatives within our Data Center Operations team. This role is responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of infrastructure projects across multiple data center environments, including hardware deployments, network integrations, capacity planning, system migrations, and site maintenance activities.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong mix of project management expertise, operational awareness, and cross-functional communication skills to drive success across a range of infrastructure-focused initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan and manage data center infrastructure projects including hardware refreshes, migrations, system expansions, and decommissions.
Collaborate with internal teams (network, systems, facilities, security) and external vendors to coordinate project timelines, scope, and deliverables.
Develop and maintain project documentation, including schedules, task trackers, status reports, and risk assessments.
Ensure that changes and implementations are well-documented and aligned with change management processes.
Work directly with internal stakeholders and customers to support planning and execution of infrastructure-related activities.
Support resource planning and task prioritization across data center operational efforts.
Coordinate and validate installation and ongoing maintenance of physical hardware and supporting infrastructure (racks, power, cabling, etc.).
Help define and refine standard operating procedures and best practices for data center operations and project workflows.
Monitor progress across multiple projects and identify risks or blockers to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery.
Track and analyze operational metrics to support continuous improvement in project execution and service quality.
Stay current on data center technologies and operational strategies to support business and operational growth.
Qualifications:
5–7 years of experience in data center operations or infrastructure environments, with 2+ years of direct project planning or coordination experience.
Strong understanding of data center components including servers, networking equipment, storage, power, and cooling.
Experience managing or supporting projects involving equipment installations, site expansions, relocations, or maintenance.
Familiarity with project management tools (e.g., Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, Jira, ServiceNow).
Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); experience with Visio or network documentation tools a plus.
Solid understanding of change management and ITIL-based practices.
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Ability to balance multiple priorities, drive accountability, and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
