Job Duties

Attention college students! The Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC) is offering a paid spring and summer internship opportunity for those interested in gaining valuable work-based learning experience while exploring potential career paths.

Interns will take on tasks and projects that provide exposure to the entry-level responsibilities within their assigned business units.

Opportunities available in a variety of fields, including: Administration, Health Services, Policy and Initiatives, Training, Communications, Infrastructure and Environmental Management, Information Technology, Human Resources, Probation and Parole, Corrections Officer, Law Enforcement, and many others.

The is a temporary internship position. The position is limited to working no more than 1,450 hours per during the 12-month period of May 1 – April 30, regardless of the hire date. The intern is limited to working no more than 29 hours per week on average over the 12-month period. This wage internship position offers no state benefits.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and currently enrolled in college or a senior in high school. They must be authorized to work in the United States in accordance with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) requirements (www.uscis.gov/l-9). Strong computer skills are required, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel). Applicants should have the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and communicate information with attention to detail and accuracy. A positive attitude, willingness to learn, and openness to new challenges are essential.
