About the role

Position: Multi- Location Speech Language Pathologist -Mingo County Schools

Supervisor: Director of Special Education

Certification: Speech Language Pathologist PK-AD 

Salary: Based upon degree and years' experience  Pursuant to WV Code 18A-4-2

Employment Term: 2026-2027 School Year 

Evaluation: Performance in this position will be evaluated by the Director of Special Education in accordance with WV State Code 18A-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5310

Job Summary: Screen , assess and identify students with communication disorders which adversely affects their educational progress. Develop and provide and indirect services within the student's educational setting.

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

Appropriate certification for the position as required by WV Policy 5202;

  Have West Virginia Speech Pathologist license and maintain license. 

Experience with school-age children is preferred; 

Ability to successfully work with parents, staff, and students; 

Ability to successfully carry out the responsibilities of the position;

  Meet professional responsibilities; 

Clearance of any criminal convictions as listed in House Bill 146; 

Applicants who have been dismissed or who have had their contracts non-renewed for cause by another school district are not eligible for consideration;

  Satisfactory references concerning past performance; 

Satisfactory past evaluations. 

 

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS/INDICATORS 

Leadership:

  Display knowledge of area of responsibility;

  Keep informed of recent developments in field; 

Use good judgement; 

Establish and follow schedule; 

Train teachers in use of individual evaluation instruments; 

Consult with teachers on student management ideas. 

 

Work Towards School System Improvement 

Keep program current with needs of system and community; 

Assist teachers in the use and results of individual evaluations, related materials, and appropriate methods. 

 

Promote Good Employee and Public Relations 

Cooperate with staff and public;

  be accessible; 

treat parents, staff, public and students courteously; 

Work with parents in developing and understanding of learning problems.

  Maintain confidentiality;

Professional Development 

Promote staff development in areas related to Speech Language Pathologist; 

Read professional journals; 

Attend professional meetings. 

 

Professional Evaluation 

Constantly evaluate and update program;

  Offer suggestions to special education director on program improvement; 

Offer suggestions to teachers on methods to use in working with students; 

Administer test and interpret results. 

 

Perform Duties Assigned

  Prepare and submit reports as required; 

Serve on Placement Advisory Committee; 

Counsel students;

  Serve as liaison to other professionals;

  Monitor procedural safeguards to assure compliance;

  Consult with and assist other Speech Language Pathologist; 

Maintain files 

Evaluate assessment data on students transferring int
