Special Systems Design Lead

Overall Responsibility

This position is eligible to be remotely based. This position serves as the Design Lead for Special Systems projects involving Telecom, IT, and Security systems. Responsible for leading and managing the design execution from concept through construction, ensuring technical quality, discipline coordination, and alignment with Arora’s standards. Works collaboratively with Project Managers, Discipline Leads, and BIM/CAD staff to ensure successful project delivery.

Essential Functions – Design Leadership

• Serves as the primary technical authority and design lead on assigned Special Systems projects.
• Oversees design execution and quality from concept through construction documents and into construction support.
• Leads internal design teams across disciplines to coordinate low-voltage systems with architectural, structural, and MEP systems.
• Ensures technical accuracy, compliance with applicable codes and standards, and consistency with project objectives.
• Coordinates with Discipline Leads and QA/QC teams to ensure delivery aligns with Arora’s technical standards and expectations.
• Participates in and contributes to design reviews, milestone submittals, and value engineering efforts.
• Provides mentorship and technical development for designers and engineers.
• Interfaces with clients, consultants, and vendors during all design phases to support design alignment and technical coordination.
• Supports innovation in design solutions, helping evolve Arora’s Special Systems design approach.
• Provides input on discipline-specific staffing needs and design resource planning.

Secondary Functions

• Supports Project Managers in tracking design deliverables and schedules.
• Participates in proposal development and design scoping efforts as needed.
• Attends client-facing meetings to provide design updates, technical briefings, and coordinate design-related action items.
• Contributes to project risk identification and supports mitigation planning for design-specific issues.
• Assists in defining technical scope, level of effort, and discipline-specific fees.

Needed Skills

• Strong understanding of project delivery methodologies and tools.
• Strong technical knowledge of low-voltage systems, which may include structured cabling, access control, camera systems, network infrastructure, and telecommunications systems.
• Strong communications and team leadership skills.
• Thorough knowledge of design-to-completion engineering processes.
• Extensive knowledge of engineering principles and design packages.
• Some knowledge of REVIT and CAD and production of design packages is desired.
• Thorough knowledge of Company standards.
• Thorough knowledge of QA/QC.
• Ability to model Company Leadership expectations.
• Maintains discretion.
• Ability to create and maintain productive relationships with employees, clients, and vendors.

Education/Experience Minimum

• Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in special systems design.
• Associate’s Degree in Engineering, Technology, or related field.
• Prior experience serving as a Design Lead is required.
• RCDD or other technology certification required.
